ABOUT OUR FARM
Located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, we are a sustainable small farm specializing in vegetables, cut flowers and agritourism.
OUR STORY
Springhouse Farm is named for an original feature of the farmhouse built in the late 1800s. The springhouse, still intact, cooled food with naturally cold water from a nearby spring. Located in a region with a long Native American history, the farms soil still turns up arrowheads carved from quartz on the land.
Mother and daughter duo, Jean and Amy Fiedler, founded Springhouse Farm in 2008 and began selling produce with just a table and umbrella. As farm production grew, so did their Farm Stand, and now a large variety of fruits, vegetables, fresh cut farm flowers and plants are offered. This has been a great way for the local community to access fresh, organically raised vegetables May through October. By stocking the Farm Stand 7 days a week, neighbors get the tastiest, most nutrient-dense vegetables available, and the feel-good of supporting a small 8 acre farm.
Mindful of the ingenuity of the springhouse and the deep history of the land, Amy and Jean use environmentally responsible methods to grow the food and flowers that nourish their community. The people of Boone and Vilas, North Carolina are Springhouse Farm's backbone, and the many hands who've worked here have helped shape it into a place where everyone can reconnect with nature!

WOMEN OWNED & OPERATED
AMY FIEDLER graduated from Appalachian State University and started Springhouse Farm with her mother, Jean. During the past 18 years, the farm has grown from the original 1/4 acre vegetable garden into 8 acres of sustainably grown vegetables and flowers that are offered to a wide range of markets. Along the way, Amy developed an internship program that empowers women to grow vegetables and flowers, teaches them how to implement agritourism events, and how to operate an agriculturally based business. Most recently, Amy is ushering the farm into the agritourism arena - sharing the beauty and nurturing spirit of what she has developed with the larger community by offering farm-to-table dinners, flower child parties, covered pavilion rentals and more. Amy’s abundant energy and welcoming smiles are fueled by her love of what she does, her two children - Mataya and Julian, and all the dogs who call Springhouse Farm home!
JEAN FIEDLER is the 80 year old mother of 3 exceptionally civic minded children - Amy is her second. She had a long career as an Assistant Prosecutor for the State of New Jersey in her role as county Assistant Chief of sex crimes and child abuse. Her 2nd career as a farmer began when she started nursing Amy’s early season plant starts on her warm covered porch in late winter. One thing lead to another, and she soon found herself helping her daughter plan and implement growing strategies for fields of flowers and vegetables. Jean’s agricultural and civic interests came together in 2024 when she started working as a farm mentor for Dreaming For Change. The organization, whose founder Jean met when he was touring Springhouse Farm, is on a mission to improve women and children's nutrition security, health, economic and learning outcomes in Burundi, Africa. Jean has had the privilege of taking part in the formation of the first community farm in Butanuka. You can LEARN MORE HERE.
During the growing season you can find Amy and her mother working Springhouse Farm together on a daily basis!
